When are classes?
.The Learning Bee Nature School - is in session on Mondays from 9:00am to 2:00pm in Winter Haven. This program will add in some of the creative elements that add variety to homeschooling to get our kids outdoors. We will cover some traditional subjects in a non-traditional way, while adding in lots of nature studies & and outdoor time. This nature school will be a one-school house style; divided into small groups split into ages. Subjects taught at our Winter Haven location will be Homestead Science, Math, Nature Journaling, Handicrafts, Art, Gardening, fishing, kayaking, and coming soon: animal care. We are able to teach ages 5 years old through 15 at this location.
The Traditional Learning Bee School - is on Tuesdays, Wednesdays , and Thursdays from 9:00am to 2:20p in Dundee, with optional after-school clubs for an extended school day Our traditional classes are traditional in the sense that they take place in a classroom setting and the classes are the core academic subjects. The subjects covered at this location are Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, History, Science and STEAM. Our science theme this year (2024-2025) is Physics and Chemistry.
When a student reaches 10th grade, we strongly encourage dual enrollment at the local community colleges or technical school.

Who are the instructors?
Our instructors may or may not hold a valid Florida teacher’s certificate. However, all of our instructors have a degree, teaching experience, extensive homeschooling experience, and/or adequate leadership role in children’s organizations, and are active members of society; PLUS have been referred by someone in our homeschooling community. They all have background checks and character references on file.
What teaching style will be used and who selects and purchases the curriculum?
Our Language & Math classes will follow a traditional style of teaching using various resources, including but not limited to texts & worksheets. Instructors will provide supplemental worksheets and resources necessary for parents to teach on the home days. Science will be more of a unit study style using zoology as its theme this year. While using state standards (CPALMS) as our guide, each teacher will put their own flavor into their class and "read the students" to meet their needs to the very best of their abilities.
History, Art & Music study are taught as a unit study style at nature school. For Math we use nature as manipulatives while playing fun games. For Nature Study & Handicrafts, we implement nature-based units combining these topics. Each month is a different theme we learn about. Example: if the theme is Seeds, we learn all about the parts of the seed, types of seeds, edible seeds used in foods, we will taste foods, we will make crafts using seeds, and finally we will plant seeds to watch what happens during the growth cycle.
Is this a Christian organization?
Yes. All of the leadership & Staff have a testimony of Jesus Christ as our Savior. Specific denominational doctrine will not be taught. Teachers and students will participate in prayer and morning devotions. Biblical principles will be applied and conduct of a Christian will be expected of our staff, parents, and students.
How are the ages and grades grouped together?
Preschool and Kindergarten will be in classes based on age. 1st through 8th will be divided into classrooms addressed by grade level. We believe in grouping by level to better address individual needs & holding each child to a high yet appropriate standard. A child may be placed in a level when they first arrive that is not best suited for them and changes may be discussed with you and teachers that have formulated a plan to move forward in best educating your child; this may be up or down a level.
At our Nature School, we split into 3-4 small groups depending on personalities, ages and abilities.
Will you provide a grade?
Teachers will assign homework, as necessary, for parents to use on the days that schooling is taking place in the homes. Students may have informal quizzes and tests that cover materials being taught in class. Teachers will provide frequent feedback to the parents regarding their child’s progress. Grades might be given to promote excellence and motivation.
The Learning Bee is structured of a homeschooling co-op. Classes are parent led. We are a resource that parents can use to assist teaching their children as part of their overall homeschooling process. We do provide work that may be saved and reported in an annual portfolio if your families keeps records that way. We have evaluators available at your request.
Do you accept students with physical, emotional, or psychological disabilities?
The Learning Bee School is not set up and equipped to accept students with all levels of disabilities, but we can facilitate most. Acceptance into the program is conditional, based upon our ability to adequately serve each student. However, we would love to meet you and your child to discuss how we can meet your needs. We can recommend other avenues for you if needed.
